Configuring shift blocking for a group

To configure the blocking of two shifts between them (simple or daily blocking), follow the steps below.

Shifts can be configured to block the assignment of a ressource on two given shifts on the same time slot or even on the same day according to needs.

  • A simple block implies that two shifts block each other on the same time slot or on overlapping time slots. A resource cannot be assigned on both shifts at the same time.
The resource can be assigned on these two shifts in the same day but at different times.
  • A daily block implies that two shifts block each other on the same day. A resource cannot be assigned on both shifts across the same day.
  • Both types of blocking are always bidirectional.

To configure simple blocking of two shifts

(i)

  • A simple block implies that those two shifts cannot be assigned at the same time to a resource.
  • For a simple block to be applicable, both shifts must be defined on the same or overlapping time slots. For example, an AM shift can block a DAY shift but not an EVENING shift, even if there is a mark at the intersection of both shifts.

1. Click on the Simple blocking tab.

In the shifts Simple blocking matrix, the blocking is indicated by a mark at the intersection of two shifts. For example, a resource cannot be assigned at the time on the shifts Coordo and Clinique Post-Hosp.

2. To modify the display of columns, click on Filter. In the Filter columns window, select the shifts you wish to display in the columns.

(i)

  • If no shift is selected (or if all the shifts are selected), all shifts are displayed in the table and can be viewed by scrolling to the right.

  • If the filter is active, the number of selected shifts in the filter is indicated in red and the corresponding number of columns is displayed.

3. To modify the simple blockings configured, click on Edit.

4. To add a simple block between two shifts, add a mark at the intersection of the two shifts or remove the mark to remove any existing block.

 (i)

Blocks are always bidirectional whether the two columns are displayed or not in the filter, i.e. , for a single selection, there are always two marks in the table.

(i)

  • By selecting All in the first row, the selections marked are only those selected in the filter and are not extended to the whole table.

  • By selecting All in the second column, the selections marked are only those selected in the filter and are not extended to the whole table.

5. Click on Save.

6. Configurations are appplied on the current and future periods.

To configure daily blocking of two shifts

(i)

A daily block implies that two shifts block each other on the same day. A resource cannot be assigned on both shifts across the same day.

1. Click on the Daily blocking tab.

In the shifts Daily blocking matrix, the blocking is indicated by a mark at the intersection of two shifts. For example, a resource cannot be assigned to the Coordo and Clinique Post-Hosp shifts on the same day.
